Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand reminded his teammates of the need to deliver the ball more often to forward Benjamin Šeško. According to him, if the decisions in the center are simplified, the pressure on the opponent’s defense will automatically increase.
Speaking on “Rio Ferdinand Presents,” Ferdinand said: “Just pass him the ball! It won’t be easy for defenders with him. Involve him in the game, force the opponent to defend. But we are circulating the ball around him. Sometimes everything is simple, it all comes down to the basics,” — thus urging not to complicate the game unnecessarily.
In the expert’s opinion, a performer who can create threat must receive priority first: “You need to pass to a player who can create danger, whereas we are doing the opposite. This is my main objection — we are not seeing who he is and what he is doing on the pitch.” He emphasized that in this case the danger does not decrease; on the contrary, actively bringing Šeško into the game will push the opponent’s lines back.
Ferdinand also added: “Even if he receives a pass and can’t do anything, in that case at least we will understand what level he is. Right now I can’t understand who he is and what he is doing.” That is, it is impossible to assess without delivering the ball — conclusions are made through statistics and episodes.
At the same time, he reminded of collective responsibility: “I don’t want to blame anyone individually, but helping teammates adapt is an obligation.” According to Ferdinand’s “law of the game,” quick and quality passes open combinations around the central forward, increase verticality in attacking zones, and shorten the path to the final shot.
In short, Rio Ferdinand advanced the principle “the simple solution — get the ball to Šeško”: then Man United’s attack could see increases in rhythm, speed, and efficiency.
