Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior defended his rights and achieved success in a legal battle against a businessman from La Coruña. The entrepreneur had registered the player’s name as a brand in November 2018, but the Brazilian star had officially registered the trademark “Vinicius Jr” a year earlier. This was reported by Sport.es.
According to sources, the defendant argued in his application that at that time Vinicius was not very well known and therefore consumers would not associate the brand with the footballer. However, the La Coruña court and the provincial appellate court fully upheld the player’s claim, annulling the brand registration and ordering all court costs to be paid in Vinicius’s favor.
Interestingly, the businessman had previously tried to justify the name by linking it to the history of the Roman Empire and his family, but the court dismissed these arguments back in 2023.
This decision is considered another important victory for the footballer in protecting his personal brand.
