UEFA has been opposing the Super League idea for almost five years. In recent days, with rumors circulating that "a consensus has been reached on Champions League reform," UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin put an end to the debate: European football's direction is determined not by the minority, but by the entire community.
Cheferin emphasized that various "projects" are coming in from outside because continental football is setting a world standard today. But the path to long-term quality is equal opportunity, balance, and inclusive reforms. UEFA will never support ideas like "competitions for only 12 clubs."
In his opinion, club football must be harmonious and inclusive: each team should have the opportunity to participate in the most prestigious tournaments and win. Because football is not just a spectacle - it is a part of the lives of neighborhoods, clubs, and fans. "If we move away from the roots, we will damage the game itself," Cheferin said at a meeting of the European Clubs Association.
In short, UEFA's position hasn't changed: there might be adjustments to the Champions League format, but decisions are made for everyone's benefit. "What makes European football strong is equality and competition. Doors should be open, not closed," - this was a clear response to Super League supporters. And for the fans, one conclusion: in elite competitions, a place is not closed, it opens with the work and results found on the field.
