Footballer arrested on the field in Finland after scoring 7 goals in one match

An unusual incident occurred in Finland — 34-year-old Brazilian striker Jonathan Guerreiro, a player and captain of the local club “Finnkurd,” was arrested by police right after the game. The National Police of Finland confirmed the incident.

According to reports, the event took place on Sunday, October 8, 2025, in Espoo (near Helsinki). Witnesses said around 20 police officers entered the field immediately after the final whistle to execute an arrest warrant.

Guerreiro had scored seven goals in the final match of the season against “EsPa/Renat,” which ended 8–1. This extraordinary result raised strong suspicions among investigators.

Police stated that the arrest was part of an ongoing investigation into match-fixing schemes connected to illegal betting profits. Two other Brazilian players were questioned, their phones were checked, and they were later released.

The Finnish Football Federation confirmed the police operation but declined to reveal further details, citing the interests of the investigation.

After the final whistle, the stadium management closed the exits and gathered “Finnkurd” players for ID checks. The opposing team was allowed to leave the field.

Investigators are examining whether Guerreiro’s seven goals were linked to prearranged betting. If proven, both the player and the club could face serious penalties.

Experts suggest this could become one of the largest match-fixing investigations in Finnish football history.
