The Italian national team defeated Estonia 3–1 in the World Cup qualifying round, extending their winning streak under head coach Gennaro Gattuso.
Earlier, Italy had also won two other matches — 5–0 against Estonia and 5–4 against Israel. Thus, under Gattuso’s leadership, the national team scored a total of 13 goals in its first three games.
This result is an absolute record in Italian football history: previously, no coach’s team had ever scored more than 10 goals in their first three matches.
Gattuso’s young and energetic squad has brought new spirit to the team. Experts note that under his guidance, Italy could regain its former glory.
For reference, Italy will play its next qualifying match on October 14 against Israel — a new test for Gattuso and a new opportunity for the team.
