Arda Güler: “Mbappe and I think as one on the pitch”

Real Madrid’s young star Arda Güler spoke about his current role in the team, his understanding with Kylian Mbappe, and shared his thoughts on former coach Carlo Ancelotti and current head coach Xabi Alonso.

The 20-year-old Turkish midfielder has scored 3 goals and provided 3 assists in 8 La Liga matches this season, becoming one of the key figures in Real’s attack. His on-field chemistry with Mbappe has been widely praised by experts.

“Mbappe? Sometimes he drops deeper into midfield, but that just shows how well he reads the game. His talent shouldn’t be limited. We understand each other perfectly on the pitch — sometimes a single glance is enough,” Güler told the French media.

He also said he was flattered by comparisons of his partnership with Mbappe to the Cristiano Ronaldo–Mesut Özil duo, but stressed that real success comes through teamwork, not just two players.

“Ancelotti is one of the greatest coaches in history. He spoke very kindly about me, and that gave me great motivation,” said Güler.

The young player recalled that club scout Juni Calafat had warned him early on that his first year in Europe wouldn’t be easy:
“Juni told me the first year would be tough. It’s normal — adapting from Turkey to Europe’s biggest club takes time,” Güler added.

Now, under Xabi Alonso, he says he feels much freer on the field. The new system gives him more creativity and decision-making freedom.

“We’ve already won the Champions League, but that’s not enough for me. I want to fight for more titles and more victories. That’s my goal at Real,” said Arda Güler.

Thus, the young Turkish talent continues to prove himself not only with skill but also with intelligence and ambition. Among Real’s new generation, his name is becoming louder — Güler is emerging not just as a player, but as a symbol of the future.
