Jose Mourinho explains Benfica's 0-3 defeat in England

Joze Mourinho commented on Benfica's 0:3 defeat in England

Benfica head coach Jose Mourinho shared his thoughts after the Champions League match against Newcastle. The Lisbon club lost 0:3.

Mourinho noted that his team had many chances in the first half. He stated that Benfica created four clear scoring opportunities but couldn't capitalize on them all. According to him, going to the break with a score of 0:1 was an unfair result.

The coach believes that at the beginning of the second half, the opponent scored the second goal, completely changing the situation. Mourinho emphasized that this goal couldn't be easily conceded.

After the second goal, Benfica noted that the players were experiencing psychological difficulties, and the opponent strengthened the advantage with the help of fast wingers. Jose Mourinho noted that Newcastle's players were quite active in the last 30 minutes of the game.

He said that if Benfica were ahead or maintained a draw, the team would be able to hide its weaknesses. However, after a score of 0:2, Benfica weakened both physically and mentally.

After three rounds of the Champions League group stage, Benfica failed to collect any points.
