The renowned Transfermarkt portal has updated its list of the most expensive defenders in world football. According to the new assessment, the increasing role of defenders in modern football has been confirmed once again.
Young Barcelona defender Pau Cubarsi took first place in the ranking. Its market value has been set at 80 million euros. Interestingly, along with Kubarsi, three other players - William Saliba of Arsenal, Ashraf Hakimi of PSG, and Inter captain Alessandro Bastoni - were also valued at the same amount.
These four are currently recognized as the most expensive defenders in the world. They are the mainstay not only of their clubs but also of their national teams.
Major clubs and young talents continue to dominate the top ten. PSG's fast winger Nunu Mendes and Manchester City's Croatian star Yoshko Guardiol share fifth and sixth places with a total value of €75 million.
Two other players of the same value are also on the list - Gabriel Magallaes of Arsenal and recently transferred English defender Trent Alexander-Arnold of Real Madrid.
Interestingly, Real Madrid's young talent, Dean Heisen, finished ninth with 70 million euros. Despite being 19 years old, the sharp increase in market value has placed him among the big stars of the future.
PSG defender Willian Pacho finished in the top 10. Its value is estimated at 65 million euros.
Experts note that this rating was formed not only on the basis of the quality of the game, but also on the basis of market demand and future potential. From this perspective, the high ranking of young defenders like Kubarsi and Huysen signifies the great potential of the younger generation.
