According to former Lokomotiv club president Nikolay Naumov, one of the weakest areas of the Russian national team remains its defensive line. The expert notes that these problems are mainly related to the team's tactical scheme.
When the defensive line is positioned higher, opponents often exploit the open spaces behind the defenders. According to Naumov, in such situations the Russian central defenders lack enough speed, making timely response difficult.
- This is an issue that can be resolved. By improving game skills, this problem can be eliminated.
It is not always necessary to play with high pressing; if the opponent is weaker, lower pressing is more effective. In that case, the speed issue for the central defenders loses its significance, said Naumov in an interview with Vprognoze.ru.
