The Swedish national team, which has been performing poorly in the World Cup qualifying stages (one point from four matches), failed to make an impact in Saturday's match against group leader Switzerland. In the 13th minute, Dan Ndoye initiated an attack from the right flank and delivered a cross to the near post.
Although Silvan Widmer did not reach the ball, it arrived in the middle near the goal line, and Breel Embolo sent it unchallenged into the bottom right corner – 1:0. In the 33rd minute, Anthony Elanga launched an attack from the left flank, approached the goal line, and made a cross into the penalty area.
The hosts deflected the cross and cleared the ball near the penalty spot. Benjamin Nygren fired it into the bottom right corner on the second attempt – 1:1.
Alexander Bernhardsson gained possession of the ball in the opponent's half, entered the penalty area through the center, and shot toward the bottom corner from a distance of 14 meters. However, the goalkeeper successfully saved it. In the 60th minute, Granit Xhaka converted a penalty by powerfully shooting the ball into the bottom right corner, with the goalkeeper moving in the opposite direction – 2:1.
The Swiss team regained possession in the opponent's area, and Embolo entered the penalty box on the right side of the center to take a long shot toward the bottom corner, but the goalkeeper managed to save it. In the 75th minute, Ruben Vargas controlled the ball well in the opponent's half and passed it to Ndoye.
Ndoye entered the opponent's penalty area on the left side of the center and struck a shot from 15 meters into the bottom corner – 3:1. Before the final whistle, Yoan Manzambi extended the lead further, making it 4:1.
Now, it would only take an extraordinary miracle for Switzerland to lose their first-place position in the group. Meanwhile, Sweden remains at the bottom of the group standings.
