Following the Uzbekistan U-17 national team's incredibly difficult and historic victory over Croatia, head coach Islombek Ismoilov gave a sincere, open, and humorous interview. The coach shared important thoughts about his students, the team's spirit, and the future opponent.
He emphasized that all decisions in the penalty shootout were made in consultation with the players themselves.
"We asked the children who was mentally ready. Each chose their own turn. "This is a sign of self-confidence, they have character," the coach said.
However, there is great awareness for the team - Muhammad Hakimov will not be able to play in the next game. Ismailov assessed this as a serious loss:
"Muhammad's inability to play is certainly a blow. But we also have great trust in Amirxon Murodov in his place. We hope he will show his strongest game."
"We won't win easily - we're always under pressure."
Ismailov emphasized that the team underwent serious preparation not only tactically but also psychologically before the match against Croatia.
"Any opponent can be beaten in this round - morale comes first. Croatia is one of the strongest teams in Europe, very strong physically. That's why we expected a tough game. But our players took advantage of the opportunity."
He cited the example of Argentina, adding that at this stage, forecasts will not work at all.
Goalkeeper change - a planned decision
The dismissal of goalkeeper Nematulloh Rustamjonov before the penalties was a question that interested many. The coach explained this as a quick but well-founded decision:
"We have both equally strong. The goalkeeping coach assessed the situation and expressed his opinion. This doesn't mean Ibrohim Shokirov can't stand up. All decisions were made by collective consultation."
Italy is a serious opponent, analysis has already begun
Ismailov also commented on the future opponent, Italy. According to him, the staff had previously studied the team's games:
"I've already sent my assistants to the Italy-Czech Republic match. We analyzed it in detail. Playing with them will be demanding from tactical and psychological points of view."
"We live in the same hotel... if we see each other - we say hello"
During the interview, the coach responded with a smile regarding the hotel issue:
"We are in the same hotel as Italy. We also lived in the same hotel with Saudi Arabia every month. We eat side by side every day. The hotel is not a separate stage - there's a lot to say on the playground."
In general, from Islombek Ismailov's conversation, it is clear that trust, unity, and a serious approach to the competition prevail in the team. Now the focus is on the Uzbekistan - Italy quarter-final, which will be held on November 18. For fans, this match will be not only an exam, but also a historic opportunity to see how strong the new generation of players are.
