As you know, the largest football festival on our planet - the upcoming World Cup - will be hosted by three major North American countries: the USA, Canada, and Mexico. However, before the start of the competition, some participants face unexpected political obstacles.
52-year dream and visa problem
52 years later, the Haiti national team qualified for the final stage of the World Cup for the second time in its history. But this historic event is somewhat overshadowing the joy: the national team's ardent fans are expected to face serious difficulties entering the host country - the USA.
Trump's ban and blacklist
The true essence of the matter is that in June of this year, Donald Trump signed a special decree prohibiting citizens of 12 countries from entering the US. Officials explained this restriction by the need to ensure national security. Unfortunately, Haiti is also on this list.
The situation is so serious that the Donald Trump administration has officially confirmed that no changes will be made to this decision and no country will be excluded from the World Cup.
Spark of hope: The diaspora comes to the rescue
Nevertheless, the situation is not completely hopeless. The restrictions will not affect the national team players and members of the delegation. Most importantly, this ban does not apply to Haitian citizens legally residing in the US. Considering the large diaspora of representatives of this nationality in the United States, it is clear that the Haiti national team will not be left alone in the stadium without the applause of the fans.
A look at history
As a reminder, Haiti has only participated in the World Cup once so far - in 1974. Although the team lost all three group stage matches, they scored twice against their opponents and made history.
