Former Moscow "Lokomotiv" and Russia national team head coach Yuri Syomin shared his thoughts on the FIFA World Cup draw, which took place on December 5.
"I am confident that the tournament will bring great joy. At the same time, it is challenging to predict what the tournament will look like with such a vast number of participating teams.
For now, the number of participants seems very large," Syomin said in an interview with "Sovetskiy Sport." Additionally, Syomin noted that the increase in matches and the number of teams in major tournaments could be linked to the desire of football officials to generate more revenue.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup, featuring 48 national teams, will be held in Mexico, the United States, and Canada from June 11 to July 19. The competition will see teams divided into 12 groups, each consisting of four teams.
