Echoes of Spain's Civil War Resurface as Former Osasuna President Identified

The Spanish Civil War of the late 1930s remains an unhealed wound in the country's history. Despite the passing of decades, the remains of victims of that tragic conflict continue to be discovered.

The Institute of Memory in the Navarre province has announced that the remains of another victim have been identified through genetic analysis. It was confirmed to be Ramon Bengaray Sabalza, the former president of the "Osasuna" football club.

According to reports, he was killed in 1936 at the age of 40. This incident occurred shortly after Bengaray Sabalza became involved in politics and assumed leadership of the Navarre Popular Front in addition to his football-related activities.

His wife, Ramona Sapatero, was forced to flee the country and later fought for many years to restore her rights. It should be noted that the "Osasuna" football club was founded in 1920.
