Former Zenit midfielder Vladislav Radimov has stated that Matvey Safonov should become Paris Saint-Germain’s (PSG) primary goalkeeper following his performance in the FIFA Intercontinental Cup final. Safonov saved four penalty shots from Flamengo players during the shootout, securing PSG’s sixth trophy of the year.
After the match, PSG’s head coach Luis Enrique was asked whether Safonov would now become the team’s first-choice goalkeeper. However, the Spanish coach avoided providing a definitive answer to the question.
“The coach needs to decide: will it be Chevalier or Safonov? In my opinion, the number one should be Safonov.
This is also a clear lesson for those who tend to complain about not being trusted,” said Radimov on Match TV. Previously, similar opinions were expressed by Andrey Arshavin and Roman Berezovskiy.
