Former midfielder of St. Petersburg's "Zenit" club, Vladislav Radimov, explained why Matvey Safonov managed to save four penalty shots in the FIFA Intercontinental Cup final against "Flamengo." The Russian goalkeeper, who was named the best player of the match, achieved a rare feat in world football.
According to Radimov, such success would have been impossible without meticulous preparation: Safonov had studied the penalty-taking techniques of Brazilian players in advance. "Safonov deserves high praise.
He knew the shooting styles of the players. He not only saved the shots but also prepared for them in advance," Radimov said during a broadcast on "Match TV."
After the victory over "PSG," his teammates lifted Safonov onto their shoulders in celebration. In the locker room, Matvey performed a victory dance.
