
The FIDE World Rapid Championship held in Qatar has come to an end, and it was full of events for chess fans. Representatives of the Uzbekistan national team also worthily participated in the prestigious tournament, which brought together the strongest grandmasters of the world, and achieved a number of high results.
Results of Uzbek chess players
Javokhir Sindarov showed the best result among men. She scored 9 points, finishing 7th overall, and gained attention for her consistent play throughout the tournament.
Nodirbek Abdusattorov took 23rd place with 8.5 points. His playing style was positively evaluated by experts. Also, Muhiddin Madaminov and Nodirbek Yakubboyev scored 7.5 points and finished in the middle section. Jahongir Vohidov, Humoyun Begmuratov, and Shamsiddin Vohidov also finished the competition with 7 points.
In the women's competition, Afruza Hamdamova took 22nd place with 7 points, which is the best result for the Uzbekistan national team. Gulruhbegim Tohirjonova took 31st place with 6.5 points. Umida Omova, Madiinabonu Khalilova, Guldona Karimova, and Nilufar Yakubboyeva also gained valuable experience on a global scale.
World champions determined
Magnus Carlsen once again won the men's World Rapid Chess Championship 2025. The defeat to Vladislav Artemyev during the tournament did not discourage the Norwegian maestro. On the contrary, he then won five games in a row before finishing the competition in first place, drawing with Anish Giri in the final round. This was Carlsen's sixth World Rapid Championship.
In the women's competition, the championship went to Alexandra Goryachkina. In the main distance, she shared first place with Hampi Koneru and Zhu Jiner. In a regular tie-break, Goryachkina won the first game, finished the second with a draw, and won the high title of world champion.
In conclusion, the rapid championship in Qatar once again demonstrated the competitiveness of the Uzbek chess school. Blitz matches and new competitions lie ahead, which means that chess fans still have many exciting moments ahead.
