In the Premier League’s 19th round, Manchester City were held to a 0–0 draw away at Sunderland. There were no goals, but after the game Pep Guardiola talked most about Rodri.
The Spanish midfielder came on after the break and, in 45 minutes of the second half, completed 52 accurate passes, adding “air” to City’s play. According to Guardiola, the 2024 Ballon d’Or winner instantly brought order to the team’s actions.
“He changed the game. In just 45 minutes he proved he’s the best in his position. We struggled to move the ball away from our box, but with Rodri that problem was much smaller. He broke the lines, our movement improved. We missed him a lot for a year and a half, and I hope Rodri stays with the team and makes us even stronger,” Pep said.
In short, City couldn’t get the win, but Rodri’s return was a “big plus.” After the draw, the Citizens moved to 41 points, with the gap to leaders Arsenal (45) at 4. Now City have one key question: Rodri is back — does that mean the winning run begins too?
