On February 2, the Olympic Council of Asia officially announced that the 2029 Winter Asian Games will be held in Almaty. Xinhua news agency reported this.
Initially, the competition was planned to be held in Saudi Arabia, and even the Trojena project, which will be built in the future for winter sports, was mentioned as the main venue. However, it became known that it would take longer to build new cities and structures, and last month it was announced that the games were postponed indefinitely.
At this point, the Almaty option turned out to be the most logical in practice: the city is ready for the winter sports environment, there is experience, and the infrastructure is "not on paper, but on the ground." After all, Kazakhstan hosted the VII Winter Asian Games in 2011 - the competitions were held in Astana and Almaty, as well as in the surrounding regions.
In short, a "ready field" was chosen for the 2029 Asian Winter Games. Now the most important thing is to properly organize the preparation: logistics, security, arena, and fan services. If this work is carried out thoroughly, Almaty can once again hold this competition at a high level and give new impetus to winter sports in the region.
