FIFA Series: A serious test and a great opportunity for Uzbekistan...

From March 27th to 30th, the capital will become a true celebration for football fans - the new format FIFA Series 2026 mini-tournament will take place in Tashkent. The national teams of Uzbekistan, Venezuela, Gabon, and Trinidad and Tobago will participate in this competition.
According to the format approved by FIFA, the tournament is organized in the group stage, but unlike traditional competitions, each team plays only two matches. This further enhances the significance of each argument - there's practically no chance of making mistakes.
On March 27, our national team will play against Gabon at the Bunyodkor Stadium. On the same day, a match between Venezuela and Trinidad and Tobago will take place at the Pakhtakor Arena. On March 30th, Uzbekistan will face Venezuela, while another pair will feature Gabon and Trinidad and Tobago.
This tournament is not an ordinary game for the Uzbekistan national team - it is one of the last serious stages of preparation before the 2026 World Cup. The geography of the opponents was chosen not without reason: matches with representatives of South America, Africa, and CONCACAF will allow adapting to different styles that may be encountered in the upcoming World Cup.
Currently, our team is ranked 52nd in the FIFA rankings. According to Transfermarkt, the total value of the squad is approximately 78 million euros. However, some key players - Abbos Fayzullayev and Jaloliddin Masharipov - will not be able to participate in this training camp due to injuries. At the same time, after a long break, forward Sherzod Temirov was called back to the national team.
Manchester City defender Abduqodir Husanov is listed as the team's most valuable player. His transfer value is around €35 million. Also, Eldor Shomurodov remains one of the important figures of the team.
The first opponent is the Gabon national team. The African representative currently ranks 86th in the FIFA rankings. The team has been going through a difficult period recently: after an unsuccessful performance in the Africa Cup of Nations, the head coach resigned, and leading players were removed from the squad. Most importantly, the team's main star, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, will not be coming to Tashkent this time.
Gabon is currently expected to give more opportunities to younger and less experienced players. Their game is mainly built on counter-attacks and individual moves. However, there is a problem of stability and psychological stability in the team - cases of rapid "breaking" under pressure are observed.
Venezuela is considered a more serious opponent. The team is ranked 50th in the FIFA rankings, with a squad value of over 70 million euros. They are distinguished by quick counter-attacks, wing play, and danger in standard positions.
One of the team's key figures is the experienced striker Salomon Rondon. Players like John Aramburo and Jefferson Savarino also have the ability to decide the fate of the game.
For Uzbekistan, the main task in matches against such opponents will be to control the tempo, play patiently, and apply pressure from the wings. In particular, it is important to effectively use the vast territory and extend the defensive line against Venezuela.
In general, the FIFA Series tournament is not a simple test for our national team - it is the last "rehearsal" before entering the big stage. Every game, every minute can be crucial for the team in the future.
In short, this tournament is not just friendly matches. Here, character, level, and ambition are tested. Now it's the field's turn.
