Real Madrid, which has not been able to show the expected results in La Liga this season, has shifted its main focus to the European stage — in particular, to the UEFA Champions League return match against Bayern Munich.
In the first leg played in Madrid, the “whites” suffered a 1–2 defeat. Now the team believes strongly in correcting the situation in the return match in Germany and keeping its chances of reaching the semi-finals alive.
The situation in the Spanish championship is different. The fight for the La Liga title has become significantly more difficult for Real Madrid. According to The Athletic, the club has practically already been ruled out of the race for the main trophy.
At the moment, the Madrid side is 9 points behind the league leader Barcelona. There are still 7 rounds left in the championship, including the decisive El Clásico at Camp Nou.
However, according to experts, it is practically impossible for Real Madrid to close such a gap and catch up with the Catalans — the task is considered extremely difficult, almost unrealistic.
Therefore, for Arbeloa’s team, the main objective of the season has now become success on the European stage — progressing to the later stages of the Champions League.
