Why did Bayern Munich abandon the Nico Williams transfer?

Nico Williams was one of Bayern Munich's primary targets during the summer transfer window, but the deal ultimately fell through. According to Sport Bild, two main reasons led to the collapse of the Athletic Bilbao winger's transfer. Goal.com reports .
Firstly, the player's financial demands did not satisfy the Bayern board. Williams requested a salary of 22 million euros per year plus additional bonuses. According to sporting director Max Eberl, these figures were deemed too high for the club even before negotiations began.
The second factor was related to playing style. Bayern analysts considered Nico Williams' defensive work rate insufficient. Since Vincent Kompany is building a system based on high pressing, the winger's lack of defensive tracking concerned the coaching staff.
As a result, Bayern opted for Luis Diaz from Liverpool for this position. The Colombian player adapted quickly and managed to prove himself. Currently, Nico Williams has a contract with Athletic Bilbao until 2035, but his statistics this season suggest his transfer value may decline.
