Why did Eden Hazard not want to take Cristiano Ronaldo's number 7 at Real Madrid?

Former Real Madrid forward Eden Hazard spoke openly about the pressure and rumors surrounding his move to Spain. The Belgian footballer rejected comparisons to Cristiano Ronaldo, revealing he asked for a different number entirely upon arriving in Madrid. This is reported by Goal.com .
Hazard, who was transferred from Chelsea in 2019 for 100 million euros, joined the team a year after Cristiano Ronaldo's departure. Although he was handed the legendary number 7 jersey, the player emphasized that he did not see himself as a replacement for the Portuguese star.
In an interview with Canal Plus, Hazard said: “I went there to play as Eden, not to replace Ronaldo. The media created a false impression about me. I am not a player who scores 60-70 goals a year; I haven't even scored that many in my entire career.”
Hazard also admitted that he initially wanted Luka Modric's number 10: “I didn't want the number 7. I asked for Luka Modric's number 10. I thought he would agree, but he didn't give me the number.”
During his four seasons at Real Madrid, Hazard made 76 appearances, recording only 7 goals and 12 assists. Plagued by injuries, the player won several titles with the Madrid club, including La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and the Champions League.
