Liverpool withdraws its £60 million offer for Yankuba Minteh

Liverpool have suffered a serious setback in their efforts to strengthen the attack. The club had shown interest in Brighton & Hove Albion winger Yankuba Minteh and submitted a second formal offer for his transfer, but that bid was also rejected. According to The Athletic, the Merseyside club’s latest £60 million offer was also turned down by the Seagulls’ hierarchy. Goal.com reports .

Brighton are reportedly demanding at least £70 million for the 22-year-old winger and are standing firm. Liverpool had previously offered £50 million for the player, but that bid was immediately rejected as well. With little time remaining before the transfer window closes, the club’s hierarchy faces a difficult decision, as the team urgently needs reinforcements in attack.

Injury and transfer difficulties

Another factor making the transfer negotiations even more complicated is the player’s physical condition. Earlier this month, Yankuba Minteh injured his right leg during a friendly against Roma, which ended 3-0, and underwent surgery. As a result of the setback, the winger will be unable to return to action for two to three months.

Nevertheless, the player’s market value has not fallen. The Gambian moved from Newcastle United to Brighton in the summer of 2024 and produced consistently at the Amex Stadium last season, scoring three goals and providing four assists in 36 appearances.

Liverpool’s attacking problems

Liverpool’s activity in the transfer market is not without reason. The departure of Mohamed Salah has created a major void in the attack. Finding a suitable replacement for the Egyptian has become a serious headache for the club. Although 23-year-old Osasuna forward Víctor Muñoz has joined the squad, the head coach admitted that his options are limited ahead of Sunday’s match against Newcastle.

According to Goal.com, the head coach said at his press conference: “Some situations are very clear and understandable to me, especially because we do not have enough specialist players to play out wide.” He particularly stressed that the team urgently needs additional wingers.

It should also be noted that Yankuba Minteh is not Liverpool’s only target, but the alternative options are proving difficult as well. The Reds had also been monitoring Paris Saint-Germain forward Bradley Barcola during the summer transfer window. However, negotiations have stalled because a significant gap remains between the two clubs’ valuations of the French player.
