Telegram may exit market over privacy concerns
Telegram founder Pavel Durov made a firm statement: the company would rather leave the market than grant access to users’ private messages, UPL.uz reported.

He emphasized that under European laws, Telegram only provides IP addresses and phone numbers of suspects based on court orders. In 12 years of operation, no private message content has ever been disclosed.

Durov recalled his detention in France in August 2024, where a law is being discussed that would require encrypted messengers to install backdoors. He explained that there’s no technical guarantee such access would remain limited to law enforcement only.

These vulnerabilities could be exploited by hackers or foreign agents, putting user privacy at risk. Durov stressed that encryption exists not to protect criminals but to secure everyday users. Losing that protection would be a tragedy.
