Residents next to Peru’s largest solar power plant still without electricity
The solar plants located in southern Peru form the country’s largest solar complex and provide electricity to hundreds of thousands of homes. However, 150 residents of the nearby village of Pampa remain unconnected to the national grid and live in darkness at night.

Only some villagers own solar panels, but most cannot afford the batteries and equipment needed to use them. As a result, many live by flashlight or in total darkness.

The Rubí plant built a dedicated power line for the village of Orygen, but wiring into homes and connections have yet to be completed by the government. These works were planned to start in March 2025.

Residents face many daily difficulties due to lack of electricity. Refrigerators, lighting, and other essential appliances are missing, causing risks for food storage and health.

Local residents and experts are demanding the government expedite grid connections because electricity is necessary to improve and develop village life.
