The most insecure passwords of 2025 have been revealed

At a time when security issues on the Internet are becoming increasingly severe, the research company Comparitech analyzed nearly two billion passwords worldwide and identified the most common and most insecure passwords of 2025. As expected, variants like “123456”, “admin,” and “password” once again top the list.

Researchers have noted that people still prefer to choose simple and easy-to-remember passwords. As a result, it remains very easy for cybercriminals to access accounts secured with such passwords. Interestingly, it was found that the video surveillance system of one of the world's most famous museums, the Louvre, also used the word “Louvre” as its password.

According to the data, a quarter of the top 100 most popular passwords analyzed consisted only of numbers. About 39% of them contained the sequence “123,” while 3% included the letters “abc.” Additionally, the words “password,” “admin,” and even “minecraft” were repeated many times in various combinations.

The top 10 most popular passwords are as follows:

  • 123456

  • 12345678

  • 123456789

  • admin

  • 1234

  • Aa123456

  • 12345

  • password

  • 123

  • 1234567890

Cybersecurity experts have once again advised users: a good password should be at least 12 characters long and include letters in different cases, numbers, and special characters. Additionally, using personal information, names, or simple words is not recommended.

Experts note that with the growing number of cyberattacks every year, password security remains a top priority for Internet users. Even the most powerful technologies cannot protect an account secured by a simple “123456.”
