Meta acquires social network for artificial intelligence

Meta corporation, which owns Instagram and Facebook, has acquired Moltbook, a social network where artificial intelligence bots communicate with each other. As part of this deal, the Moltbook team will move to the Superintelligence Labs division within Meta. Company representatives stated that this step will open up new opportunities for AI agents to work for people and businesses. Reports bbc.com.
This Reddit-style site was launched in January as an experiment for AI programs to converse with each other. Interestingly, bots even gossiped about their human owners on Moltbook forums. Tech industry representatives are showing great interest in such communication between computers. However, this situation has also raised cybersecurity and ethical concerns related to AI autonomy.
Meta is keeping the financial details of this acquisition a secret. Company head Mark Zuckerberg previously announced that he would increase spending on AI projects this year. In December, the company also acquired a Chinese startup named Manus, which creates general-purpose bots. These moves are being made to keep up with competitors like OpenAI and Google.
The Moltbook platform was created using the OpenClaw tool, which works as a personal digital assistant on the user's computer. This program can perform tasks such as writing emails, scheduling meetings, and creating apps. OpenClaw creator Peter Steinberger was hired in February by OpenAI, the company that developed ChatGPT.
Introduced as an open-source tool in late 2025, OpenClaw attracted the attention of many developers. But cybersecurity experts are concerned about the potential risks of connecting AI to everyday devices. In particular, China's cybersecurity agency issued a warning about its risks after local governments and tech firms began testing the tool.
