Apple has introduced the second generation of its premium over ear headphones, the AirPods Max 2. The biggest upgrade is the move from the older H1 chip to Apple’s newer H2 processor, which brings the device in line with the latest AirPods features. Reports Rozetked.me.
With the new chip, the headphones gain a wider set of smart functions already seen in Apple’s recent audio products. Apple also says active noise cancellation is now up to 1.5 times better than on the first AirPods Max, aiming to block more outside sound in daily use.
Another notable addition is support for higher quality audio when the headphones are connected through USB C. Apple says users can listen at up to 24 bit and 48 kHz, offering improved wired sound quality for compatible content.
Battery life has not changed. The AirPods Max 2 still deliver up to 20 hours of listening time with active noise cancellation turned on. At the same time, Apple’s website suggests the new model may no longer include the fast charging feature available before.
The price remains unchanged at $549, and the headphones are offered in five colors. While the update may look modest at first glance, Apple is positioning the H2 chip and stronger noise cancellation as the main reasons to upgrade.
