Greater Bay Technology, an incubator startup of automotive giant GAC Group, has developed a prototype of an all-solid-state battery. The company claims it ensures a critical balance between safety, energy density, and charging speed. Overclockers.ru reported on this.
Engineers have created a hybrid electrolyte that combines organic and inorganic components. Unlike existing alternatives that use brittle ceramics or toxic sulfides, this non-flammable material has successfully passed nail penetration and thermal shock tests. The battery offers an energy density ranging from 260 to 500 Wh/kg, significantly higher than the 250-300 Wh/kg of current lithium-ion cells.
This technology allows for a full charge in 20 to 30 minutes with a service life comparable to traditional batteries. Greater Bay Technology has already filed over 50 patents for its electrolyte formulations and manufacturing processes.
Mass production is scheduled to begin at the end of 2026 at a factory in Guangzhou's Nansha district. The first units will be installed in cars from Hyptec, GAC's premium sub-brand. As of March 2026, the company held a 0.37% share in the Chinese market with an installed capacity of 0.21 GW.
