CATL receives major 60 GWh order from HyperStrong

CATL, the world's largest battery manufacturer, has signed a massive agreement with the Chinese company "HyperStrong" for the supply of sodium-ion batteries. Under the three-year partnership announced on April 27, 2026, a total of 60 GWh of capacity is scheduled for delivery. Ixbt.com reports on this.
CATL representatives stated that this agreement indicates that all challenges in the mass production of sodium-ion batteries have been overcome. This project marks the beginning of a new era in the commercialization of this technology.
The company has invested nearly 1.5 billion dollars in research in this field since 2016.
The new type of batteries are distinguished by their durability: they retain 80 percent of their capacity even after more than 15,000 charging cycles. Additionally, the devices are capable of operating efficiently in extreme temperatures ranging from -40 degrees to +70 degrees.
The energy density stands at 160 Wh per kilogram.
These batteries do not contain expensive cobalt and nickel metals, and aluminum is used instead of copper foil. This technology not only increases safety but also allows for a significant reduction in production costs.
The new product is primarily intended for large-scale energy storage systems and data centers.
