560 Google employees demand withdrawal from military projects

Google’ning 560 xodimi harbiy loyihalardan voz kechishni talab qildi

More than 560 employees of Google corporation, including leaders and leading researchers of the DeepMind division, sent an open letter to CEO Sundar Pichai. They called on the company to stop participating in secret military projects related to artificial intelligence. Ixbt.com reports this.

According to the Financial Times, the appeal was signed by more than 20 directors and vice presidents. Employees are concerned that working on secret projects could take technologies out of the developers' control and create unexpected risks.

The authors of the letter emphasize that such projects could lead to the creation of autonomous weapons or mass surveillance systems. According to them, working in closed networks eliminates the possibility of monitoring for what purposes artificial intelligence systems are being used.

The protest was caused by a potential agreement between Google and the US Department of Defense. According to it, the Gemini model could be used in secret operations.

Employees stated that artificial intelligence must serve only for the benefit of humanity and must not be used for inhumane purposes.
