Meta launches artificial intelligence for age verification

Meta has begun using an artificial intelligence system on its Facebook and Instagram social networks to identify and remove users under the age of 13. The new technology estimates users' ages by scanning their photos and videos, as reported by Techcrunch.com.
According to the company's statement, the AI analyzes visual cues such as height and bone structure. Meta emphasizes that this process is not facial recognition technology, but rather age estimation based on general visual data.
Visual analysis is combined with text data and user behavior.
If the system determines a user is under 13, their account is blocked. In such cases, the user must undergo an age verification process, otherwise, the profile will be permanently deleted.
Currently, this system is operating in selected countries, but it is planned to be rolled out worldwide in the future.
The company is also expanding its system of special safe accounts for teenagers in the 27 countries of the European Union and Brazil. In these profiles, receiving messages from strangers is restricted, and harmful comments are automatically hidden.
In the US, this technology is being applied on the Facebook platform for the first time.
