Google adds expert advice from Reddit and forums to its search engine

Google is updating its AI-powered search experience. The system will now provide users with answers not only from official sources but also from discussions on forums like Reddit and social media. Additionally, news sources subscribed to by users will be highlighted in search results. This is reported by Techcrunch.com reports .

Google previously introduced the "AI Overview" feature to its search engine, but this innovation was met with mixed reactions from users. There were instances where the system failed to distinguish irony or incorrect information, leading to humorous or dangerous recommendations. Although artificial intelligence has improved significantly, the risk of "hallucinations" or presenting incorrect facts, inherent to LLM technologies, still remains.

According to a New York Times analysis, 90 percent of AI-generated answers are accurate. However, considering that Google processes trillions of queries daily, the scale of the remaining 10 percent error rate could be significant. For this reason, the company decided to enrich search results by relying on user-to-user exchanges. The fact that many users intentionally add the word "Reddit" to their search queries is evidence of the need for real-life experience.

As part of the new feature, Google will provide additional context regarding information sources, including author names or community names. This should help users assess the reliability of the information. Nevertheless, experts recommend always double-checking quotes provided by AI, as systems like ChatGPT or Claude can sometimes link to incorrect sources.
