Jeff Bezos representative leaves Slate Auto board of directors

The head of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos's family office has stepped down from the board of directors of the electric vehicle startup Slate Auto. According to official documents reviewed by TechCrunch, Melinda Lewison, who is responsible for Bezos Expeditions investments, left her position over the past few months. This was reported by Techcrunch.com .

This change comes as Slate Auto prepares to begin production of affordable electric vehicles later this year. Currently, Bezos no longer has a direct representative on the company's board. Slate Auto, Lewison, and Bezos declined to comment on the matter.

Analysts believe this could indicate a decline in Bezos's interest in the startup. Currently, the Amazon founder is focusing on his new robotics project, Project Prometheus. This project is attracting significant capital to automate industrial enterprises using artificial intelligence.

Bezos's involvement in Slate Auto has always been mysterious. The company did not disclose how much Bezos invested during the initial funding round in 2023. His participation in the recently completed $650 million Series C round has also not been confirmed.

Nevertheless, the Slate Auto team is full of former Amazon employees. The startup was founded by former Amazon Consumer CEO Jeff Wilke, and the current CEO, Peter Faricy, is also a former vice president of Amazon Marketplace.
