China's TV market is declining, but screens are getting bigger

Luotu Technology has released its report on the Chinese TV market for the first quarter of 2026. According to the report, the market is experiencing an overall decline: shipments reached 8.065 million units, down 8.8% year-on-year. Retail sales fell by 11.4% to 6.4 million units. This marks the fourth consecutive quarter of decline, with no immediate improvement expected. This is reported by Ixbt.com news.
Despite the market downturn, consumers are increasingly choosing larger TVs. In the first quarter of this year, the average screen size reached 64.3 inches, an increase of 2.6 inches compared to last year. 75-inch models remain the most popular choice for the second consecutive year, accounting for 24.3% of total sales.
Currently, the share of 75-inch and larger TVs is approaching 40%. Models sized 75, 65, 55, and 85 inches occupy 74.7% of the market. Experts recommend a viewing distance of 2.5–3.5 meters for screens between 60 and 120 inches, and large 98 and 100-inch models are also finding their place in the market.
Although the average price of TVs has risen, energy-efficient models are leading the market, with their share reaching 78.3%. Additionally, TVs with Mini-LED technology are gaining popularity: their retail share reached 26.7%, and shipments are expected to grow by nearly 40% by the end of the year.
