Uber on the path to becoming a super app: hotels and new opportunities

Uber has long aimed to become more than just a taxi service, evolving into a "super app" that meets users' daily needs. The rise of autonomous transport companies like Waymo is pushing Uber to accelerate this transition. The company seeks to make its platform a central hub not only for transport but also for tourism and shopping, reports Techcrunch.com reports .
At the GO-GET event in New York, Uber announced the launch of a hotel booking service in partnership with Expedia Group. Users can now choose from over 700,000 accommodations directly through the app. Uber One subscribers gain access to special discounts and a cashback system.
Uber's CTO, Praveen Neppalli Naga, emphasized that the company's strategy is based on a subscription model. According to him, integrating transport, food delivery, and hotel services creates a unified ecosystem for users. Future plans include integrating flights and financial services into the app.
However, competition is fierce. Airbnb is responding to Uber by developing its own transport services, while Elon Musk is working to turn the X platform into an "everything app." Retaining users within a single app in the US market is a difficult task, as there are already leading apps for every sector.
Uber's main advantage is its base of 199 million active users and the fact that their payment information is already in the system. The rapid growth of Uber Eats proves the company's strategy is correct. Now, the company is trying to spare its users from downloading new apps by providing all services on a single platform.
