Instructure reaches agreement with hackers

Instructure, the developer of the Canvas learning platform, announced that it has reached an agreement with hackers who attacked its systems twice. The cybercriminal group ShinyHunters claimed responsibility for the attack on April 29, alleging they stole personal data of approximately 275 million students and staff. This is reported by Techcrunch.com .
Last week, hackers attacked the Canvas system a second time to pressure the company, defacing login pages on school websites. Instructure stated that the hackers provided evidence that the stolen data had been deleted and that customers would no longer be blackmailed.
Although the company acknowledged that there is no absolute guarantee when negotiating with cybercriminals, the financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed. Instructure representatives refused to answer questions about whether a payment was made.
The US government and security experts advise against paying cybercriminals, as it encourages their activities. Experts believe that even if hackers claim to have deleted the data, they cannot be fully trusted and may continue to blackmail in the future.
