Google introduces new AI-powered Googlebooks laptops

Google has announced a new line of Googlebooks laptops powered by its Gemini family of AI models. Developed in partnership with major manufacturers like Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, and Lenovo, these devices will be available this fall. These are the first laptops specifically designed to provide proactive assistance to users. This is reported by Techcrunch.com reports .

The new laptops feature the "Magic Pointer" function, an intelligent cursor based on Gemini technology. By hovering the cursor over objects on the screen, the system provides contextual suggestions. For example, selecting a date in an email allows for immediate meeting scheduling, or combining two images to evaluate their visual appearance.

Googlebooks are fully integrated with Android phones. Users can control apps on their phones via the laptop, search for files, and insert them directly into documents. Additionally, the "Create your Widget" feature allows users to build custom widgets using Gemini and consolidate data from services like Gmail and Calendar into a single dashboard.

This innovation marks the end of the Chromebook era for Google, signaling a transition to a new Android-based operating system. Although the company stated it will continue to support existing Chromebook users, Googlebooks is emerging as a competitor to Microsoft's Copilot+ PC devices.
