Chinese tech giant Xiaomi is planning to take its automotive business to a new level. The company is preparing to build a network of not just charging stations, but battery swap stations for electric vehicles. According to ixbt.com, Xiaomi's subsidiary Hanxing Venture Capital has joined the shareholders of Zhejiang Xinglixing New Energy Technology. Following this agreement, the company's registered capital has reached 130 million yuan. This investment is expected to be a key link in Xiaomi's global automotive strategy.

Technological cooperation and new opportunities

Zhejiang Xinglixing New Energy Technology was founded in February 2024 and specializes in components for electric vehicles, battery systems, and most importantly, battery swap station technologies. Through this partnership, Xiaomi aims to expand its ecosystem and compete with rivals like Tesla and NIO in terms of infrastructure.

Battery swap technology is especially convenient in large cities and for drivers traveling long distances. While charging an electric vehicle usually takes from 30 minutes to several hours, the automatic battery replacement process at special stations takes only 3-5 minutes. This is almost the same time as at traditional gas stations.

The future of Xiaomi cars

Xiaomi had previously announced the new Xiaomi Pengcheng model with extended range. The car is expected to be unveiled in August of this year. The newly built network of stations will be designed to serve such new-generation electric vehicles.
