Sony WH-1000XM4C: A New Affordable Version of the Legendary Headphones Is in the Works

Japanese technology giant Sony is preparing to expand its popular wireless headphone lineup. According to WinFuture, initial images and key technical details of a new model called the Sony WH-1000XM4C have leaked online ahead of its official announcement. The device is expected to be a slightly simplified but significantly more affordable version of the legendary WH-1000XM4, which remains popular on the market. Ixbt.com reports that.

The new headphones are reportedly expected to cost around 250 dollars or euros. This will undoubtedly be an attractive offer for buyers compared with the latest flagship models currently available. For example, considering that the company’s newest XM6 model costs around 450 dollars, it is clear that the new version is aimed at users who value high-quality sound but do not want to overspend.

Design and Appearance Changes

Based on the images published by WinFuture, the new WH-1000XM4C appears to retain almost the entire design of its predecessor, the WH-1000XM4. They are nearly indistinguishable from the outside. Nevertheless, Sony’s engineers have decided to offer buyers a new choice.

In addition to the traditional black and white finishes, this time an appealing purple color has been added. At the same time, the headphones remain lightweight, weighing just 253 grams. This helps prevent ear and head fatigue even during extended use.

Technical Specifications and Simplifications

To achieve an affordable price, Sony has had to make certain compromises. The main changes affect the device’s internal components:

  • Battery life has been reduced by 3–4 hours compared with the original model.
  • The NFC module, which enabled quick connections, has been removed.
  • Although smaller drivers are used in the latest flagships, this model retains 40-millimeter drivers.
  • The device supports the modern Bluetooth 6.0 technology.
According to experts, the absence of the NFC module and the slightly reduced battery capacity should not cause major inconvenience in everyday use, especially given the significant price difference. Support for Bluetooth 6.0 ensures a stable connection and high speeds.

Sony has not yet provided exact information about the model’s official presentation date or sales launch. However, the leaked images and reports from reputable sources such as WinFuture suggest that the product announcement is approaching. The device is expected to intensify competition in the mid-range segment of the audio technology market.
