Proposal to Expel Students for Academic Debt in Uzbekistan

Proposal to Expel Students for Academic Debt in Uzbekistan
Uzbekistan is currently discussing a proposal to expel students with academic debt, Talimxabarlari.uz reports. The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Innovation has drafted a government resolution that suggests amending Decree No. 824 of December 31, 2020.

According to the proposal, Section 42 of the current regulations would remove the clause stating that "students with academic debt at the end of the semester or academic year will not be expelled."

Opposition to the Proposal

The Center for Educational Projects has opposed the idea, arguing that expelling students due to academic debt contradicts the principles of the credit-module system. Instead, they propose allowing students to retake failed courses in future semesters or replace them with new modules.

The proposal is still under discussion and may be revised before final approval.
