South Korea to help build Tashkent–Andijan toll road

South Korea to help build Tashkent–Andijan toll road
South Korea will assist in the development of a Tashkent–Andijan toll highway and the introduction of smart traffic systems, reports UPL.uz, citing Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Transport.

On June 6, 2025, Deputy Transport Minister Ilhomjon Abdugafarov met with Korea’s Minister of Land and Transport Pak Sangwoo and Korea Expressway Corporation head Ham Jingyu to discuss cooperation.

South Korea proposed implementing smart traffic lights, AI-driven monitoring, highway management systems, and training programs.

Korea Expressway Corporation offered automated tolling, traffic sensors, and digital infrastructure solutions to improve safety and efficiency.

The planned 314 km highway will cut travel time from 5 to 3 hours, potentially increase Uzbekistan’s GDP by 2.6%, and reduce road accidents by 40%.

The international tender, announced in January 2025, has already attracted over 30 companies. Applications are accepted until June 21.

The project includes real-time road monitoring, smart lights, and specialist training supported by Korea.

Korea’s tolling system allows contactless payments via sensors and cameras — reducing congestion and saving time.
