In Uzbekistan, watermelon prices dropped almost threefold in just one week from May 23 to May 30, reported Kursiv.media.
According to the East Fruit portal, the average wholesale price of watermelons fell from 7,000 to 2,500 soums per kilogram. This is the sharpest decline in the last five years.
Experts attribute the drop in prices to an early harvest. This year, large batches of watermelons hit the market a week earlier than last year.
East Fruit believes that low domestic prices will likely lead to an increase in exports.
For reference, Uzbekistan exported 98,500 tons of watermelons last year. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
