In recent days, various reports have been circulating on social media claiming that cases of watermelon poisoning are increasing in the capital. This has caused serious concern among the public. In response, the Tashkent City Department of Sanitary and Epidemiological Control issued an official statement.

According to specialists, there have been no reports from infectious disease hospitals in the city indicating that “mass watermelon poisoning cases” are being recorded. In other words, these claims are unfounded and do not reflect reality.

At the same time, the department issued several warnings to the public. In particular, citizens are strongly advised not to purchase melons sold along roadsides without proper sanitary compliance. It was emphasized that watermelons and other melon products should only be bought at reliable and authorized sales points.

One case that has sparked wide public discussion in recent days is the death of a 4-year-old child on August 16 in Tashkent. According to reports, after eating watermelon at home, three children in the family developed symptoms of vomiting, diarrhea, and fever. They were taken to City Clinical Infectious Diseases Hospital No. 4, but despite resuscitation measures, the youngest child passed away.

Doctors diagnosed the child with “acute infectious intestinal disease, gastroenterocolitis type. Aspiration syndrome.” Later, the preliminary conclusion of the Republican Forensic Medical Examination stated the probable cause of death as “another form of cardiopulmonary insufficiency, presumed to be associated with intestinal infection, diarrhea, and gastroenteritis.”

Currently, law enforcement authorities are conducting an investigation into the child’s death.

Experts remind the public that in hot summer weather, special caution must be exercised when consuming food products. To maintain good health, it is essential to follow sanitary rules and choose only safe and properly inspected products.
