Locusts have surged again in Kyrgyzstan. Early spring, drought, and the heat of May created ideal conditions for insects, the Kursiv media website reports, citing the country's Ministry of Agriculture.
The regions bordering Uzbekistan suffered the most:
Jalal-Abad region - about 33 thousand hectares;
Osh region - 21.4 thousand hectares;
Batken region - 24 thousand hectares, of which more than 3 thousand hectares have been treated with air.
In total, farmers inspected more than 154 thousand hectares of land. Locusts were detected on 108 thousand hectares of land, which were treated with chemicals using special equipment and light aviation.
