Kursiv media reported that Qanot Sharq has applied to the US Department of Transportation (Mintrans) for permission to operate flights. The flights are scheduled twice a week between Tashkent and New York.
If the license is granted, Qanot Sharq could become the first private airline from Uzbekistan to operate flights to the United States.
According to the Telegram channel “Pik Skatarsis,” the Tashkent–New York route will be used not only by Uzbeks, but also by citizens of other Central Asian countries.
According to the channel's author Timurmalik Elmurodov, Uzbekistan has an FAA Category 1 rating. For example, Kazakhstan does not have such a rating, which is why there are no US-bound flights from there.
The US government is expected to possibly allow flights in 2025 or 2026.
