In Uzbekistan, women live much longer than men

As of January 1, 2025, 66.3% of long-livers in Uzbekistan are women and 34.6% are men. This was reported by the "Family and Gender" Research Institute. The data was confirmed: the proportion of women among the aging population in the country is significantly higher.

It is noted that the number of citizens aged 90 and over in the country is 18,915. Of these, 56.5% live in urban areas and 43.5% in rural areas. This means that the phenomenon of longevity is not unique to rural environments, but is also influenced by the widespread availability of healthcare infrastructure and services in large cities.

By region, the largest number of centenarians were recorded in the Fergana region (2,582 people), the city of Tashkent (2,155 people), Kashkadarya region (2011 people), Surkhandarya region (1,799 people), and Tashkent region (1,740 people). These figures show how demographic structure, medical provision, nutrition culture, and social environment factors are manifested in different regions.

According to demographic forecasts, the number of long-livers in the country will steadily increase in the coming years. In 2030, this figure is expected to reach 44,016, and in 2040 - 93,971. Experts explain this by the fact that the generation born in 1935-1950 is reaching a long life. In these years, the birth rate was high - around 36.6-30.9 per mille. In short, the great wave of "bebumer" is now entering the high age limits.

At the same time, the increase in life expectancy in Uzbekistan also supports the process. If in 2010 the average life expectancy at birth was 73.0 years, then in 2024 this figure reached 75.1 years. The improvement in the quality of medical services, the growth of the culture of preventive examinations, and the growing interest in a healthy lifestyle are giving a positive impetus to the overall dynamics.

According to the results of research conducted by the Research Institute "Family and Gender," social activity is the main social factor of longevity. 76.3% of respondents noted that active social life keeps a person mentally and physically healthy. Also, 38.8% of respondents indicated that genetic heredity plays an important role in the factors of longevity. This conclusion indicates that family factors and daily activity complement each other, becoming strategic components of longevity.

As a reminder, a 130-year-old woman from Fergana was previously recognized as the oldest citizen in Uzbekistan. It was established that the birth of Huvaydo momo Umarova (Toshmatova), born in 1895, was not registered. The lawsuit filed by the Department of Justice of the Buvayda District was satisfied, and during the visiting court session of the Kokand Inter-District Court for Civil Cases, held in the "Karakum" neighborhood of the Buvayda District, the fact of Huvaydo Momo's birth on January 1, 1895, in the Buvayda District was established. This situation once again showed how important documentation is in determining the legal status of adult citizens.

In conclusion, the figures indicate that while the long-lived segment is expanding, the proportion of women remains high. This emphasizes the need to further systematically strengthen measures aimed at healthcare policy, care services, rehabilitation, creating conditions for social activity, and developing the infrastructure of the elderly.
