A sharp increase in the price of one of the most popular fish types in Uzbekistan’s consumer market—mackerel—has been recorded. There has been a noticeable rise in the number of customers expressing strong concern and dissatisfaction over this price change on social media.
Within just one week, the price of this fish has risen significantly. Smoked mackerel: The price per kilogram has jumped from about 120,000 UZS to 175,000–200,000 UZS.
Frozen mackerel: The price has increased from 90,000 UZS to 150,000 UZS. "People, it seems the sellers in Tashkent have gone crazy!
Yesterday I was at the Hospital market, I wanted to buy mackerel, but when I saw the price, I was honestly shocked. A week ago, the price of frozen mackerel was 47,000 UZS, now it is 105,000 UZS, and smoked is 140,000 UZS!
How can you raise the price by over a hundred percent?! What is going on?
When will the relevant authorities control the prices?! What will these prices be like closer to the New Year?
How are ordinary people supposed to live?" — wrote a member of the "Iste’molchi.Uz" community about consumers and services. According to reports, the reason for this was that Russia stopped allowing fish transit through its territory.
Now the fish is being imported through Bulgaria or Turkey. It is even frightening to imagine what the price of mackerel will be on the eve of the New Year.
