The "Central Asia Smart City" project is being implemented in the Ahangaron district of Tashkent region. The total value of this project is $10 billion, which is twice as large as another major project in the region — Tashkent Medical Smart City.
The project has been put up for discussion by the administration of Tashkent region. This mega-project will be carried out by the "Going Investment" joint venture.
This enterprise involves investors from France, Japan, Turkey, and Uzbekistan. 6,400 hectares of land have been allocated for construction, and in the first phase, major infrastructure facilities will be established on a 500-hectare area.
The "Central Asia Smart City" concept includes the creation of a "smart green city" designed for 200,000 residents. In the project's initial phase, it is planned to build the Central Asia financial center, a trade and logistics complex, as well as international centers for tourism and transport.
Additionally, the project envisions the establishment of the Al-Khwarizmi International Center for Knowledge and Technologies, which will have a campus for 75,000 people. The main goal of the project is to create an ecologically sustainable and technologically advanced urban environment.
A rapid tram line (light rail) is planned to connect the new city with Tashkent and other regional centers. This route will run along Tashkent - Nurafshon - Central Asia Smart City - Almalyk - Ahangaron.
The project will be carried out on the basis of public-private partnership. In Uzbekistan, the "smart city" concept is developing not only in the Tashkent agglomeration, but also in other regions.
For example, similar but smaller-scale projects are being implemented in the ancient cities of Samarkand and Bukhara. These projects aim to increase tourist appeal and improve the quality of life for city residents by integrating digital technologies into urban management and infrastructure.
